A salon I used to frequent downtown is guilty of that too – great service, great atmosphere and then you have to give your money to a sullen child of 12 or 13 that doesn’t even have the wit to acknowledge you! Get with it salon owner/Dad – this is when your customers are deciding on a tip and your daughters bitchy self-conscious attitude is totally offensive!

Yes, that’s right. Let the kid learn on their time. I don’t want to see some jack-ass kid serving me with attitude or just plain simple ignorance.
All the kids breaking payphones and keeping the pizza man from delivering and yellin over their ipods should have to work at these fine establishments.
Remember what you say about child labour the next time you go buy cheap plastic shit at the dollar store or Walmart. What you’re putting in your cart was probably made by a kid of 9 or 10 years of age and living in an 8’x8′ dorm room with a dozen other kids. I’d rather see the owners’ kids downtown learning some skills and earning their way through. At least you know one or more of them will have a business to work away at and maybe own someday, unlike these poor Chinese kids who are slaves to our North American “disposable society”.
