I am so so so sick of hearing people whine and bitch about not having Sunday shopping…suck it up, go for a walk, or a movie, go out to supper, spend time with your kids, DEAL WITH IT! I hate the comment ‘We only have one day to shop’ No you fucking do

Thank you for articulating my own thoughts on this issue. The media blitz is typical, stirring up shit to hawk their rags. I would think there’s more important issues to address, like the goddamn street crime that’s dominating this city.
I’m curious about what people are truly upset about regarding Sunday shopping: 1) they simply can’t purchase things on Sundayor2) they don’t have the choice to shop, whether they want to or not I’m curious if people are just a bit outraged because of lack of personal choice on the subject. i.e. ~ they would prefer to choose what day to spend time with the kiddies or grocery shop instead of feeling some sort of pressure to do it on a specific day of the week. I think most people don’t really care about shopping on sunday, but are more vocal to the fact that something so small and insignificant such as buying stuff on a Sunday, has to be policed by the government and tax money, instead of the individuals themselves. Just a thought.

Amen. I too am sick and tired of hearing about this debate virtually every hour of my day. Whether or not people are for or against Sunday shopping doesn’t matter. The problem is that the topic is just not worthy of taking up the front pages of our papers and filling our news broadcasts. Seriously people, there are a lot more serious and newsworthy issues out there than whether or not stores will be open on Sundays. Let’s start focusing on issues that are actually worth our time. Our lives do not depend on Sunday shopping.
My feelings exactly. Consumers already have 6 days in which they can do all of the shopping they may need to do, if you can’t find a spare hour or two to go get some groceries I doubt an extra day will be of any help.
I agree with you. Its crazy our tax dollars are paying for police to go into these stores on Sunday. We survived this long without Sunday shopping, and personally I am sick to death of the issue
The big deal is equality. Why should one company be allowed to do it and another equally classified store be denied? Also seeing as Halifax is, (almost frighteningly), driven by a large student population, AND we have some of the hightest tuition, lets give the students a chance to pick up a few extra hours.

Who cares if you have to work on Sunday, thousands of other people have to do it…waitresses, nurses, doctors, Shoppers employees…fucking grow up and get with the times! If you are worried about not enough time spent with you family…well, the great think is you can CHOOSE to shop or not shop on Sunday…jeez! Fucking get over it! I agree that we have 6 days of shopping available to us…so who cares if we open the stores for another day. Lets give Sunday shopping a chance. It’ll give the people who want it extra money. And it’ll be funny just listening to the other people complain…hahahaha!
Amen! my parents run a small business and sundays are our best days because all of the giants are closed. Nova Scotia’s got a depressed economy as it is, let’s leave the little people alone.
You lazy retail slobs, if you want more choice, get a better job then! What makes retail so special that they can bitch and complain so much about having to work on Sunday? Hello..you get another day off instead. You think you have it rough? I work on Sundays and so do my other coworkers. Who makes sure your phones, cable, internet, lights, power, police protection, fire protection, etc. works? Go for a meal? Who’s cooking it and serving you? Go for a drive? Who’s attending that gas station? Bring on the competition. Why should the “little” guys have an advantage? You don’t see every corner store going out of business everywhere else in the country do you? Finally, who said Sunday had to be a day of rest to spend with your family? What about the other 6 days of the week? If you only have one day to spend with your family, then you got bigger issues. I work every Sunday and holiday yet I still see my family every day. Bring on the Sunday shopping, when I can get some supplies to do some work around my house and buy some groceries too.
Hey..just wanted to point out that you two who are ‘for’ Sunday shopping are the only two of the then replies to this Bitch who are not against it…or at least not tired and sick of hearing about it. Don’t take it out on us because you’re bitter about working at a call centre…why don’t YOU get another job…and to those of you who don’t work on Sunday or who wouldn’t have to work on Sundays if it were implemented…why don’t you pick up a job that requires you to work on Sundays and see how you feel about it:)

If everyone who works retail went out and got a “better job” then there would be no one to staff the shops on Sunday or any other day. People who work retail toil away for often substandard wages trying to serve/please jerks like “Wake up” who in turn treat them like “lazy retail slobs” who don’t deserve the simple courtesy and respect that all people should be treated with. Everyone who currently works Sundays chose thier job knowing that was part of it the cashier at Sobeys didn’t.

Why should it be Sundays? Who says people want to spend their Sunday with their family? It makes me sick to see a bunch of right wing christian men telling people that they should spend the day with their family. I know so many families where the woman is expcted to do all the cooking and look after the kids on Sundays, and find time during the week on sunday. If the men in government are so intereted in big government interfering in people’s live then do something that is slightly useful, instead of gettting the cops to measure the size of the produce section. For example force employers to pay a decent wage.
Sunday is like none other. I love how everything her is written in a fit of rage. What kind of God fearing Christian says “Go to fucking church”!?!? Of course you hear an arguement of “Spend time with your kids on Sunday”!! Even if the stores were open, the day cares aren’t, and who’s going to babysit on Sunday. If there were Sunday shopping it would be a family even, an outing. Sheesh! Do we not have anything better to do than bitch and complain about everything? (Yes, i am aware i am bitching right now). its modern day and God isn’t going to strike anyone with lightning for skipping church to buy some pork.
Not necessarily agreeing with Sunday shopping does not automatically brand you religious. I am not religious and I am not really for Sunday shopping…I think mostly because I’m tired and sick of hearing about it. Truthfully I don’t really care if we have it or not…I do generally manage to get what I need through the week and don’t feel the impulse to run to the grocery store on a Sunday…but is it really just about the grocery store?? I doubt it. People are just using the fact that groceries are a staple to give reason for wanting Sunday shopping when everyone knows that as soon as the grocery stores open pretty much all other retail is soon to follow…

I think that Sunday shopping is kinda a really broad statement altogether. Really…the only thing that should be fought for is that grocery stores are open because it is a necessity in case of emergency just like shoppers. Really though, it is that difficult if you live far out of the city and you just want to get home…if you want to do groceries it can be a large pain in the ass to do it after work…that’s why other provinces made grocery stores open on sundays. Even if it’s open after 12 for those few who go to church. Funny how one of the main arguments was for religious purposes, yet, if you do check out the churches I’m sure you won’t find many students there if anyone really all that much. A lot of people who work full time have saturday to really relax and get out…sunday is for laundry and groceries and whatever chores that you need to do. I can see the point to people complaining about not being able to shop in some degree on sundays for retail considering that most people don’t finish work until 5-5:30 and then they have what, a half an hour to do some shopping? It’s weird how all the issues get dumped into one bin altogether when really, all that anyone is really asking for is just for the necessities to be open on sundays. Leave it up to the owners. Obviously they want to be open, so leave it up to them to spend their money as they choose. I’m sure that most of the franchises are liable enough to make those decisions and can afford a hit if it comes down to it.
I dont think there should be Sunday shopping. But I do think they should sell beer in the coner stores.
