As winter drags on, it is nice to come across an album than can transport you to an exotic place. Canzone della strada, the first ever domestic release from this Austrian jazz quartet, is dedicated to an almost lost form of Italian music overheard in cafes or whispered between rapturous lovers. It is warm and inviting and really captures the spirit and romanticism of a people. With playing like this, it is no wonder that the quartet has won every jazz honour in Germany. Wonderful stuff.
