Lovers of zines, screenprinted matter and everything DIY, your Halifax hub needs you! The Roberts Street Social Centre, home of the Anchor Archive Zine Library, Inkstorm Screenprinting Collective, the Crow’s Nest meeting space and the Peoples’ Photocopier, is fundraising for their proposed May 1 move (beta.indiegogo.com/Roberts-Street-Social-Centre-MOVING). The centre—which for seven years has been a media and artistic hotspot hosting workshops, film screenings, live shows and artist residencies—has been evicted and need some fundraising power to help transition to the new space. Suggestions for an ideal location are still being taken, the members are looking for a publicly accessible, min 800 sq ft location for less than $1000/month located in the north end of Halifax. Such a dream location may be difficult to find by May 1, so the RSSC have noted that they are open to partnering with other organizations. The total goal is $10,000, which intends on going to building a ramp in their new space, building materials to make shelves for the zine library, a loft area and walls, new work tables for crafting, art and workshops, the Inkstorm studio including a washout station, dark room and printing area, moving vehicles and more. If you want to help but can’t afford to donate, the RSSC is also looking for in-kind donations of building supplies, helping hands and household appliances like a stove, mini-fridge and washer and dryer.
