Jon McKiel’s New Record

jon mckiel Jon McKiel is releasing his new album Tonka Warcloud this Saturday (tomorrow night oh my gawdd) at Gus’. His tiny, perfect EP Confidence Lodge was the fire that kept me warm last winter, so like everyone else I’m psyched. McKiel’s release is part of a Shotgun Jimmie double-header. The pride of Sackville will […]

I Love You, Shotgun Jimmie

Here’s a secret – I don’t really like music videos, in the traditional sense. I’m usually of the view that unless Chris Cunningham has directed it, it’s boring. But sometimes a video comes along that ideally reflects the personality of the musician, their general vibe, and kind of alludes to the meaning of the song […]

You can download it here: Joel Plaskett – Jimmie’s Still Jimmie And you can buy a physical copy of the 7″ over here.

Sappyfest Day Three

Sunday at Sappy had a slow start, we were pretty partied out after Saturday’s hijinx. I was pretty impressed when we spotted a group of musicians and volunteers playing baseball at 10:30; we thought about stopping by and hitting some dingers but we decided to skip out on the action and head to the performers’ brunch. No other festival treats musicians as well Sappy does, they pay well, they give performers a pass for the entire weekend and they also provide a musicians’ free brunch and dinner every day of the festival. The Sunday brunch took place in the university

Targeting Shotgun Jimmie

If the man, also known as Jim Kilpatrick, says he paddled part of the way in a canoe to play a festival in River Valley (between North Bay and Sudbury in northeastern Ontario), one would believe him. He’s that kind of guy: equally committed, comical, resourceful, sincere. “It was this outdoor stage, like a log […]
