Go To The Seahorse Tonight

We’ve already trumpeted news of this event a few times, but it bears repeating: there’s a mighty fine SXSW sendoff show going on tonight with your favorite bands – Dog Day, Duzheknew, Secret Colours and Cousins. There is a suggested $10 donation at the door to help the bands allay their travel costs, and you […]

A Very Noyes Offer

As I write this, I am sick as hell and listening to the song “Scratches” from Dog Day’s forthcoming 7” of the same title. It’s the shiny type of song that makes you feel like you might be sticking your head out of a car window somewhere, and it’s almost June, and the light from […]

SXSW Roundup

I have been getting a few emails with SXSW news so I thought I would share. Sadly Long Long Long will no longer be accompanying the Halifax contingent to the festival due to a lack of funding. The band says they’re still planning on a spring/summer 90-day tour through the US (with a few select Canada dates.) Duzheknew and Cousins will still be attending the festival as part of an insane 65-date U.S. and Canada tour. Carmen Townsend, In-Flight Safety and Rich Aucoinare also heading down, as is Jenn Grant.Halifax hip-hop will also be represented with the presence of

A Sneek Peek at the Khyber Tape

If you can’t wait until the Saturday release party to get your mitts on a copy of the Khyber Comp Tape, we’ve received the opening song on the comp, “Khyber” by Cousins, to share with you now. Listen and get pumped, and then go pump some life-giving money blood into the old building’s veins, so we can all enjoy it a little longer.

The Return of Monotonix

photo stolen from digbeth.org I know it’s barely Halloween but there’s an early Christmas prezzie on the horizon for all you fans of Israeli stoner/freak-rock. The terrors from Tel Aviv, Monotonix, will be returning to Halifax on December 12th to the Seahorse to presumably blow your faces off with their hairy-chested little antics. Fun to […]

Duzheknew/Cousins Split Tape Release

afghan wrasslin’ Adam O’Reilly is releasing some tracks from his fantastic new wave-inspired project Duzheknew on a split tape with Cousins. Says the release: “What started as a home-recording project in a new city turned into a creative outlet tapping into New Wave-era bands of the past such as: Devo, Talking Heads, DNA, and more.” […]

Cousins

Aaron Mangle has been playing solo under the name A Helpful Diagram for a couple years, but this summer he picked up a band and became Cousins. While the scrappy, low-fi aesthetic of A Helpful Diagram had its charms, Mangle’s songs develop into something more when fleshed out with a full band, foggy indie-rock with […]

Cousins around town

Being a songwriter who doesn’t particularly like writing lyrics is a surprisingly good way to come up with some of the most evocative songs Halifax will see this year. Aaron Mangle has developed his unique songwriting technique in two years of playing solo in Halifax under the name A Helpful Diagram. Last winter he recorded […]
