Being a student is difficult to begin with, and it can be a struggle to figure out where to turn when things get particularly hard to handle. Universities offer counselling services, but there are other places to go on- and off-campus when looking for support or a safe space.

Mental Health Crisis Telephone Line
A phone service providing short-term crisis management in operation 24/7 for those in mental distress.

South House Sexual and Gender Resource Centre
An inclusive space on the Dalhousie University campus, offering resources and referrals or simply a place to drink a cup of tea. Free menstrual and sexual health supplies are available.

Laing House
A drop-in centre offering peer support for folks aged 16-29 living with mental illness—specifically mood disorders, psychosis and anxiety.

The Healthy Minds Cooperative
This non-profit provides public education, peer support and connections to outside community services for people living with mental illness.

Avalon Sexual Assault Centre
Avalon is a feminist organization offering free individual counselling for survivors of sexual assault, abuse and/or harassment. The centre also provides information sessions for parents and partners as well as group programs.

Radstorm
An alcohol- and drug-free venue shared by the Sad Rad collective and Ink Storm Screen Printers Society, Radstorm provides space for workshops, all-ages shows and other events. It also offers equipment rentals.

The Khyber Centre for the Arts
An artist-run centre offering exhibition space for non-commercial work. The Khyber has an anti-oppression policy for its programming and operating.
