Our question of the day comes from commenter mira230, who wonders if anyone out there remembers BB King playing Queen Elizabeth High School back in the ‘70s. "I cannot find any record of it online, but it happened. I was there!" If you remember any details about King's visit, let us know in the comments. In the meantime, why not check out this list of the best Halifax concerts ever.

The Liberal government just keeps being the worst. CBC has a look at the impact from cutting $190,000 out of the consumer-led initiative grants, which funded a number of mental health programs. This week's Coast cover feature by Jacob Boon highlighted the Liberal's current public relations catastrophe, and here we have another dizzying example. Activist Katherine Taylor tells Brett Ruskin “people will die because of these cuts.” Maybe that's true, maybe not. A department spokesperson's email to Ruskin says the program was wasting money, and with that we're supposed to take the government at its word. If mental health money can be more efficiently spent, then by all means move it around. But if the decision will seriously impact people's lives, at least have the courtesy to offer more of an explanation than emailed talking points. That's even more necessary when overall health spending has increased, with the budget now surpassing $4 billion. Actions like these are what make the current government seem so scornful of the public. It's our money, but they can't explain how they're spending it.

Already dreading eating your bunk, leftovers lunch? Ditto. Downtown's Cantonese Bakery, Kee Heong, is tucked away on Granville Street and serves a kick ass dim sum daily. Melissa Buote calls it cheap, simple and marvelous, we call it worth ditching the brown bag for.

This coming Thursday's issue is all about the OBEY Convention. A four-day celebration of experimental, avant-garde, contemporary and underground music and art, if you are craving something remarkably different, you'd do well to take in a show. This year the festival is bringing in jazz legend Peter Brotzmann, Bing & Ruth and tons more local and international artists. Last year's cover featured the glam and glowing Jef Barbara. Have a read and prep your ears and mind for some expanding this week.
