Another contender is about to arrive on the suddenly hot gourmet burger scene. Flipburger (277 Lacewood Drive) plans to open its doors mid-May, and burger aficionados across HRM are already drooling in anticipation, so much so that owner Chris Tzaneteas (who also owns The Argyle and co-owns Ela! Greek Taverna) is already considering expanding if all goes well.

“We own properties downtown on Argyle Street and we would probably pop one up in the downtown core as well over the next few months,” he says.

Flipburger boasts a long list of environmentally friendly choices, including hormone- and steroid-free meat that’s locally sourced whenever possible, eco-friendly take-out containers, reclaimed wood, chairs made from recycled water bottles, the list goes on and on. The food itself is classic American favourites—burgers, hotdogs, onion rings and milkshakes, and a veggie burger too—but with unique toppings and ingredients. Just what these unique ingredients are, Tzaneteas won’t say, but he promises a tasty experience.

  1. Sounds like another former Blockbuster space turning into a burger joint, strange coincidence.
