Fans of Frankie MacDonald are calling for Cindy Day’s job after the CTV meteorologist made online comments which appeared to insult Cape Breton’s beloved weather forecaster.
Yesterday, CTV Atlantic’s Cindy Day replied to comments on her Facebook page about Frankie MacDonald’s accuracy in weather predicting by reminding everyone that MacDonald isn’t a trained meteorologist. The comments have since been deleted.

While Frankie MacDonald has been recognized by everyone from Buzzfeed to the House of Commons for his weather videos, unlike Day he does not have a degree in meteorology.
But pointing that out, while perhaps originally conceived as a playful ribbing on Day’s part, was nevertheless read by many as a condescending slight against an autistic man doing what he loves most.
It’s prompted some discussion.
The original post now has 154 comments and close to 300 shares. Day’s subsequent apology now has over 1,000 shares and 1,600 comments. In both, people pick apart her language, tell her she’s jealous, accuse CTV of condoning cyberbullying and call for Day to be fired.
Because she’s a woman having any sort of opinion online, several commenters also show their support for MacDonald by repeatedly calling Day “bitch” and “cunt.”

Naturally, there’s now a change.org petition to get Day fired.
The one person who doesn’t seem to be paying much attention to it is MacDonald himself. He posted to Facebook yesterday letting his fans know he ignores “negative and rude comments.”

Anyone reading Cindy Day’s comments and finding them offensive ,has, in my opinion, too much time on their hands.We should all take a page from Frankie’s “book” on how to deal with certain comments. Read the well written and sincere apology written by Cindy Day and move on.Personally, I think she is one of the best meteorologists in the business.

Oh dear! All this hate, name calling and sexual slurs forgets entirely the truth of this situation – that Frankie is not a meteorologist. I don’t know Cindy Day. I love Frankie… and I won’t lie, I do go to him for weather… but her argument was that he is not a meteorologist. When I read it, that’s all I see and she’s not wrong. I have friends who feel she’s been insulting toward people with autism, but honestly, I saw the post and I didn’t see anything at all that led me to think she was dumping on, or even singling out any group other than humans who are not meteorologists.
When she said to go discuss other ‘people’s’ forecasts with them, it seems to me she wasn’t referring to autism at all… as far as I know, there isn’t a large group of people with autism forecasting the weather… clearly she was pointing out, again, that he’s not a meteorologist… if he were, she would have said, ‘go discuss another ‘meteorologist’s’ forecasts with them’, but he isn’t, so she clarified that point with ‘people’… he is a person, is he not?
This thing has gone off the rails… I truly hope nothing stupid happens with her job over this!
Here’s the thing, folks. Most of the individuals doing this are Cape Bretoners, not just Nova Scotians in general. After Aselin Debison stopped being a ‘sensation’, they needed someone else they could put up on the pedestal and say, “That’s one of us, b’y!” After going viral, Frankie fit that bill.
As far as the “People” comment, a lot of people need to smarten up. Frankie’s name was not mentioned at all in that post; people—the same ones who took great offense to Cindy making a factually accurate statement—are just choosing to infer that it was about Frankie instead of the rodents that were used on the second day of this month to predict the length of winter.

I like watching Frankie like everyone else and from what I hear he puts in time figuring things out. He’s right sometimes, wrong others, just like EVERYONE.

Well on this point I must be on Cindy Day side. Frankie in some opinion might be funny but he is certainly NOT a meteorologist. I certainly don’t see what the “hype” is all about. I don’t feel like Cindy Day owes anyone an apology.

When I want weather information I have two options: 1-Look out the window 2-tune in to Peter Coade. I am not a fan of Cindy Day but this is ridiculous. Local “mini celebrities” tend to get over inflated egos but I really don’t see any good reason for the woman to be pilloried for making a stupid comment. If stupid were the benchmark for getting fired there would be a very long list of job ads in the paper.

The “people” comment was a clumsy punctuation attempt by her to describe him as a civilian who is untrained as a weather forecaster. It seems everybody wants to accuse her of attacking an autistic person rather than realizing that she was just responding to those idiots who were suggesting she call him to get the correct forecast once she announced there would not be a “massive storm” this weekend as he was saying. As a trained meteorologist that is about as insulting as it gets. The worship of MacDonald is way, way over the top by many. He is entertainment for some, nothing more. He was bound attract criticism at some point and unfortunately she is being made into a villain by some crazy people online.

Hi my name is Shelley from Windsor N.S i truly feel that Miss Cindy day is a fanatic weather girl who i hold very dearly to my heart, as she is the girl of my dreams she has a very special spot on C T V and she warms a lot of peoples hearts and homes with love and understanding about the weather. one thing i was very proud of was that fanatic book on grandma says. it hurts me to think see stop talking about her grandma on Wed nights at 6.30 that is something that is very dear to Cindy and she should be so proud to think that she can talk about all the beautiful things she remembers about her sweet grandma. i am saying this from the bottom of my heart. i am beside Cindy all the way.
