Not a lonely wilderness

New protected areas are not created by individuals. Your portrayal of the effort to protect the Blue Mountain—Birch Cove Lakes behind Bayers Lake in “Into the wild” (Dec. 18) was a glorification of one individual among many who initiated the call and fought for the protection of the near-urban natural area. For 10 years, local community champions, environmental groups and citizens at large promoted this area as one that should be slipped out from underneath the talons of the developers. Activist Chris Miller deserves credit for his important role, but the story makes no mention of the hundreds of people who contributed time and effort to this success story. The accolades should be shared. I suggest Bousquet work a little harder for his feature stories—Coast readers deserve a more accurate depiction of reality.
