Nova Scotia Community College
NSCC has three campuses in metro Halifax.Among all their NS campuses there are professional supports. From dedicated advisors for each program, cultural supports for Black, Indigenous and international students, learning strategists (disability supports) and registered personal and career counsellors that can be accessed through the student services office at each campus.Â
There’s also urgent aid, tutoring, bursaries, a health and dental plan and a 24/7 help line for counselling support.Â
The interactive resource Student Health 101 gives tips and info on fitness, budgeting, eating right and managing stress. NSCC says new government-funded e-health resources will help employees recognize and respond to
student distress.
And this past year, NSCC says it launched a mental wellness strategy for students and employees. The point of the strategy is to prioritize mental wellness of the NSCC community. The program has inspired a mental health peer support program which begins this fall.
Dalhousie University and University of King’s College
Dalhousie and University of King’s College students have access to the Dalhousie student health and wellness centre, which has nurses, doctors, a social worker, a psychiatrist, counsellors, psychologists and health promotion experts.
Dal uses a stepped-care approach, which looks at best next steps on an individual basis, providing supports from online programs to peer support to ongoing counselling.
Dalhousie says it can offer over 100 same-day healthcare appointments to students on top of booked appointments.

Saint Mary’s University
SMU has its own counselling centre, which offers counselling and academic and life skills coaching to all registered students, and “mental health sessions to faculty and staff in an effort to increase confidence supporting
students in distress.” Counselling sessions can also be offered in many languages as needed. Intake appointments are available for students who may be new to counselling.

Mount Saint Vincent University
The Mount health office offers personal and academic counselling to any registered Mount student. Sessions are 50 minutes long. Students can have up to ten sessions a year. To book an

counselling@msvu.ca, or visit the front desk in EMF 108. There’s also wellness workshops, exam boot camps and group programs offered
throughout the year.
