Local company Supplement King grows across Canada

Roger King started it as a delivery service six years ago

Six years ago, Saint Mary's University student Roger King started his company, Supplement King (Park Lane Mall, 5657 Spring Garden Road, 877-5464, and other locations in the HRM including Scotia Square and Bedford Place Mall).

"I was into fitness and using these products," says King. "I had a roommate that was a varsity athlete. The product was too expensive for me to purchase myself, so I began to gather up group orders just to cover my own expenses and got the ball rolling that way. I eventually branched out to being a one-man delivery service, where people would phone in and I would deliver to their door all over the HRM. I was basically a glorified pizza boy."

From those beginnings Supplement King has become the fastest growing group of sports supplement retail stores in Canada, with six locations including in New Minas, Goose Bay and now Abbotsford, BC. The Park Lane location was originally a competitor, Life and Sport, which Supplement King recently purchased.

Focusing primarily on carrying nutritional supplements by Canadian companies---"the supplement industry requirements are higher in Canada than they are elsewhere," says King---Supplement King offers a deal where if you spend over $30 you can take $10 off the next product you buy during the same purchase. So, if you can get two $36.99 tubs of Isoflex Whey Protein Isolate, the second one will only be $26.99.
