It’s hard to imagine Halifax without Chives Canadian Bistro (1537 Barrington Street, 420-9626), and it’s food author and chef, Craig Flinn, given the impact he and his restaurant have had on the city and the local food movement. Chives will be turning 10 on December 4. Sometime soon (between late November and early December) the 250,000th customer will be walking through its doors, and when that person does, they will be treated to a special event for them and everyone their party. The quarter millionth customer will be greeted at the door by Flinn with a free gift followed up by a custom tasting menu and wine pairings, all compliments of Chives.
