To the editor,

I was glad to see you do an article on Boat Harbour. I grew up as a
teenager in Pictou County and the pulp mill was something you would be
reminded of daily, because of the sulfur emissions from the plant.

My sister told me years ago that she was down there to see her
boyfriend, and he showed her around. She couldn’t believe the harbour
of foam. Her boyfriend told her that the guys at work could actually
run on top of the foam if it was done just the right way. She was
totally disgusted.

But like in most places in Nova Scotia, if you complain about the
enviromental damage industry causes, the government always pulls out
the Job card and that usually shuts most people up. Oh, yes and
then there’s the We Are Doing A Study card. That one can be used
for years to keep people quiet.

But now maybe we should be pulling out the Oh, Look At The
Incredibly High Rate of Cancer in Pictou County
card and stop
letting these industries use their scare tactics in places where there
are not a lot of jobs.
