Attic and Thirsty Duck closings | Shoptalk | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

It looks like the Thirsty Duck (5472 Spring Garden) is indeed closed for good. There “just wasn’t enough business” there, says Gary Muise, VP of operations for the Grafton Connor Group, which bought the Duck out of bankruptcy in May 2006. At the time, the Group revamped the restaurant’s decor and menu; the changes were effective, says Muise, “but not enough.” The decision to close was made last month. Another Grafton Connor Group holding is also closing: live music venue The Attic (1741 Grafton) will hold its last show (check out 34 for the line-up) this Saturday. “The live music scene isn’t what it used to be. It’s not drawing the patrons like it used to,” says Muise. The Attic, an important live music venue for nine-and-a-half years, will be reformatted, with a “top secret,” non-live music format. (Cross your fingers, and say “polka lounge!”)
