I thought you of all organizations would allow the process of employment to be a fair and equal one. We now find out that not only the selection for the technician position was made under the radar, but he happens to be a buddy of the previous technician! Once again you show unfair practice and that the “it’s who you know” system is still largely in place. Shame! —Slapping Some Fishy Lips

That’s how fucked up it is in this province. My advice: Pursue the career that your parents had and use them to get your foot in the door.
There is no legal or moral requirement to have an open competition for a job. In fact, they can slow the filling of a position, leaving critical work uncompleted.
If an employer can fill a position with someone who has the competence to fill a position, why do they need to consult you or me? They don’t. If it’s the previous employee’s buddy, he got the job because he can do it and came with a recommendation.
Yes, it’s unfortunate that we didn’t get the position but to claim they are being unscrupulous is simply sour grapes.
And if you still don’t know, it is indeed who you know which gives you a competitive edge.
