Teacher unions and education. Do you really know that the quality of education is going to be significantly downgraded? Of course you don’t. Why? Because there is plenty of evidence to suggest teachers incomes do not translate into better educations.

You claim that teachers vote against their own best interest in order to vote in favour of the student’s best interests  but I would question whose best interests are they really voting for? Education or teachers unions?

A historian would claim teachers unions are only interested in greedy teachers who have been given steadily increasing pay and benefits for the last 30 years and yet the Test scores remained sub standard and stagnate for 30 years.

Is it in our best interest to bleed a system dry with no tangible benefit? Is it in our best interest to teach to the lowest common denominator so kids do not feel bad about themselves? Can better teaching results be found outside the greedy union dominated public school system, you bet they can. Is it entirely their fault they perpetuate a crappy system, No. But, that is of little consolation for our children whom are branded with low outcome standards.

Teachers unions have little to do with education. By definition teachers unions are selfish entities that do not care about the education of our children and only care about the level of benefits they receive.

Teachers! You are paid well, and you pay your union well, too! It is high time for you to send a clear message to your union.

“No we won’t take out students to streets for you. You tell your over priced union lawyers to get off their fat cat arses, and do their fucking job. We expect you to settle this in the board rooms or the court rooms, not on the street like a newly formed teamster union. In case you didn’t know, this is our community too. Little Johnny needs an education, now not later.” —Concerned Parent

  1. I can remember my grade 10 Modern World Problems class teacher saying that now we are out of junior high (gr. 7-9), “We (the teachers) don’t care.” And she was right. They had given up. They taught and whoever understood the work understood it. Those who did not, well… fuck ’em!

  2. Replace “Teacher’s Union” with the word “Government” and re-read. Then have a chuckle because they’re two sides of the same coin and equally useless.

  3. Cocky, I so agree with you. And frankly if the teachers would just DO that instead of trying to mollycoddle every single child who is “entitled” by their parents we would probably have far fewer problems. Certainly students would learn to expect that they actually have to DO something.

Unfortunately it isn’t quite that simple anymore as the government (not the Union) has implemented policies which absolutely prevent teachers from refusing to mollycoddle. They can’t even fail their students or give them a zero for not doing their work right? And don’t forget this policy of customising the learning of individual students based on their own requirements that they talked about in the previous dustup…plus all the data entry…it must be absolutely insane to be a teacher. I couldn’t do it!

Anyway in my opinion it’s just like everything else around here : We are going along for this ill conceived nanny state government ride whether we like it or not and hopefully it will get so bad so quickly that it all comes crashing down and someone is FORCED to look at things and say “Ok….this aint working”.

I figure it’ll take about a decade now…between this and health care…we have to wait for every bureaucrat and politician who had a stake in these empire building projects to be gone before someone else will be able to even attempt to fix it all.

Shall we call it the “Decade of Hell”?
