It was great to watch the segment about last week’s crosswalk collision on the news last night. A girl was nearly killed, and what is the response from the police? “Pedestrians shouldn’t use the crosswalk”. A crossing guard would make it a lot safer for the kids going to and from school, but apparently it’s more important to shunt kids toward an inconveniently located pedway, thereby protecting the right of motorists to not stop for anyone, anytime.
So thanks a lot for making the position clear on this, Mr. Police Spokesman – cars matter, pedestrians are an inconvenience. If my kids manage to make it through without getting run over in a crosswalk, it won’t be due to any efforts on your part.
Thanks for Nothing

That is a very busy street that the people were trying to cross. The pedway was built to protect walkers and to make a very safe crossing for pedestrians. Are you that busy that you cannot walk an extra 3 minutes to save your life?
Get some common sense.
Having a crossing guard won’t really solve driver’s not stopping at crosswalks… All it means is that there is one more person that might get hit. Crossing guards don’t have some magic power to make vehicles stop, they’re just bigger so driver’s can see children walking WITHOUT parents see that someone is there trying to cross. I agree with “This is your common sense”, use the bloody pedway.
