The Gideons bid you all farewell this week (well, there will be one last New Year’s bash for you to drown your sorrows at), but they aren’t leaving you empty handed. They have a limited 150 copies of their vinyl only double LP, Oxford Street, the band is also giving it away for free download via www.hotmoneyrecords.com/songs/oxfordstreet.zip

Their album release show is this Friday, November 13 at the Khyber with Bloodhouse and Gamma Gamma Rays (10pm). Did I mention that it was a DOUBLE album?

“Having four songwriters means a shit ton of songs get written. We all have a bit of a backlog of songs we never got to do with the Gideons. We figured that we may as well put out as many as we could,” says Josh Salter. “Also double records rule and we thought it’d be funny to put out a double record as are second record (and first in a real studio). Husker Du‘s Zen Arcade, Todd Rundgren‘s Something/Anything, The White Album, Exile on Mainstreet, Blonde on Blonde etc., arguably each band’s best album. We would have done a triple album if we had the money.”

“We knew we wouldn’t last long enough to record a second album,” says Lyle Peterson. “Also, hugely inspired by Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.”

And with this accomplishment under their belts, they exit stage left. “We all hate each other now and we don’t know who will get custody of the PA,” says Salter.

“I think we have run our course,” says Spencer Cantley. “But I will miss this band a lot. Maybe we will have a reunion someday.
