A Sides Win: Singles 1992-2005
(Sony BMG)
A Sides Win: Singles 1992 - 2005 is Sloan’s first foray into the realm of the greatest hits/singles compilation (on what grounds is a single considered to be a greatest hit?). After releasing seven studio albums (from Smeared to Action Pact), one EP (Peppermint) and a double live album (4 Nights At The Palais Royale), it’s about time. For the hardcore fans there are the prerequisite new singles “All Used Up” and “Try To Make It.” Unfortunately this is an album for the casual fan, as it focuses on the tracks that rock radio embraced and subsequently played to death, rather on the singles that endeared these Halifax lads to audiences both locally and abroad. Hopefully at some point, Sloan will release a B-sides compilation to complement this singles package.
