If you’ve been coveting one of Michelle SaintOnge’s colourful animal prints, including the “Exotica” collection (perhaps you’ve seen the menagerie at Morris East) or the Martha Stewart-loving “Private Lives of Cats and Dogs,” or her fun bags, pillows and jewellery, now’s your chance. SaintOnge is holding an auction and fundraiser on Wednesday, September 8, 6-9pm at The Hart and Thistle. All proceeds go towards “training and equipment for the printing studio for a worker-owned women’s co-op of underprivileged women supporting their families in Nicaragua.” Bids start at $25.

Proving that the internet isn’t a total hell pit, SaintOnge was approached by Maria Wood, a native Honduran who lives in Chicago and works with the women’s co-op in Nicaragua. Wood read SaintOnge’s DIY screenprinting blog, printcutsew.com, and approached her to become involved. “I’ve been to Chicago once since then to do a trial studio build,” SaintOnge writes.
