It was only just over a year ago that Charlotte Day Wilson penned her first lyrics. If you've listened to any of her songs you're probably scratching your head pretty hard right now, but it's true. A move to Halifax from her home in Toronto acted as the catalyst for the longtime singer and multi-instrumentalist's adventures in songwriting, which resulted in what became her rich debut Palimpsest. "All I do is listen to music," says Wilson, who recorded every bit of the six track EP on her own. "The most interesting thing is to imagine who these people were listening to." Hence, she says, the album's name. "So, for me, I'm just trying to insert as many genres and styles and into my music." That's why it's hard to put a label on exactly Wilson's doing, which is the beauty of it: hints of folk, soul, jazz and hip-hop live in Palimpsest together, peacefully.
