Those who adore Little Feat as one of the greatest American rock bands ever, believe it ended in 1979 when Lowell George died of a heart attack at the age of 34. Join the Band comes off like a hootenanny/seance to summon his spirit. It features respected soloist daughter Inara singing Trouble and even an ace slide guitarist like Sonny Landreth playing his riffs. A mainstream Nashville element inhabits, perhaps, too much of the album, but that depends on how you feel about Brooks and Dunn (Willin), Vince Gill (Dixie Chicken) and Jimmy Buffett (Champion of the World). If this results in renewed love for the original recordings, it’s a good thing.
