It was a pleasant surprise when Noah Pink, director of Hey Rosetta!‘s video for “Red Song”, found out his work made the short list for the CBC Radio 3 Bucky Awards, a fan choice award. “The short list came out at the end of November and that’s when I found out we were even up for the award in the first place,” says Pink. “My sister told me.”

In addition to “Red Song,” on the shortlist for best music video were Jenn Grant‘s “You’ll Go Far,” Final Fantasy‘s “You Shut Up,” Jill Barber‘s “Oh My My” and a fan video for Thunderheist‘s “Jerk It.”

“I really don’t like doing ‘traditional’ music videos with the band singing to the camera,” says Pink. “They’re just so fake looking. Plus, as a viewer, I think they’re boring to sit through. I’d rather watch a story unfold in an interesting way.”

Pink continues to be involved with the band, he is going to St. John’s this weekend to film a live concert for Hey Rosetta!. The band has plans to release that footage online and possibly through CBC.

The burning question on everyone’s mind is: what does the CBC Radio 3 Bucky look like? Is it heavy? Can you use to to bludgeon people? “I think it may be a trophy of a bowler,” says Pink. “Though I’m not sure, cause the award would go to the band.” So for the record, Noah Pink will have no bludgeon-worthy awards in his house for now.
