This year’s Music Nova Scotia Awards celebration was an eventful one.
Taking place in Wolfville from Nov 7-10, the annual music and industry awards saw several of Nova Scotia’s greatest musical talents walk away with awards for their incredible work. Hot off his latest single “Landmine,” Daniel James McFadyen came away with three awards, including SOCAN Songwriter of the Year. Maggie Andrew, having released her new EP Day Job, followed with two awards, including African Nova Scotian Artist of the Year and New Artist Recording of the Year.
Genre-blending spectacular Elyse Aeryn won Entertainer of the Year. Her latest single, “Cowboy,” blends her signature rock style with a country tone. One of Halifax’s best percussionists, Patrick Murphy, stepped up on stage to accept the Musician of the Year Award for his work with Pillow Fite, Rankin MacInnis and many others.
The weekend also saw performances from several acclaimed local artists, including McFayden and Andrew, Indigenous Artist of the Year DeeDee Austin, hip-hop artist HARMZ, Halifax alt-rock duo Pillow Fite, and Cape Breton folk duo Rachel Davis and Darren McMullen.
