You come in for breakfast or lunch at least once every couple of weeks. Despite friendly and fast service and food that is always cooked to your liking (you’ve never sent anything back) you NEVER tip!!! What the hell dude? I guess you think we do this for fun? Wondering what you get out of having attractive young women wait on you and then you leave nothing. Next time you come in, there’ll be an extra little something in your food. –Pays to pay

  1. Please tell us where this is. There are so few attractive young ladies worthy of tips in this town, I’d like to be served by some. And I tip. Pretty please?

  2. Maybe he doesn’t feel you’re attractive…or maybe he doesn’t give a shit about how you look…maybe you shouldn’t be flapping your gums about how your looks should get you a free ride in a city where maybe people have no money to tip.

And why are you referring to his skin color?

    Maybe you should just STFU.

  3. I used to tip but now I have 2 kids with 12 thousand dollars worth of dental bills. Sorry OB, if I have a few bucks to spare, I’ll spend it on them before you. Please don’t take it personal.

  4. I agree it’s crappy to not tip, but messing with someone’s food should be charged as assault. Be the better person, OB, and please don’t fuck with his food. That’s just nasty and plain wrong.

  5. Where DO you work? Are you suggesting spitting or something more noxious in his food? This is not a bitch but a threat of assault and should be reported to Public Health.

There is no requirement to tip. Unless there is a required gratuity, it is up to me. As for the cheap individuals who do not tip in a sit down restaurant, go to a fast food place or STFH.

  6. You are in the wrong job because you made poor life choices; and we have an obligation to tip you as a result? Guess you learned a hard lesson, eh?!

  7. Maybe he senses your sense of entitlement and chooses to do this. And BTW, you’re the asshole in the room.

  8. Sorry Charlie but tips are not mandatory. There are a lot of people who work at minimum wage jobs who do not get tips or commissions. What makes you so special?

  9. There are many people that work at wages higher than minimum wage that have earned every last penny of it, and they quite possibly drive a shittier car than little princess barrister .

  10. Hey, ‘honey’ (they really hate that), you know, thanks to many like you over the years, bitching in the coast over tips, I made a very serious effort years ago to modify my tipping habits. Hopefully, if I am ever served by you, you are more than just a pretty face and get the gratuity you deserve.

  11. Since when is tipping expected?! Especially if the person comes in “once every couple of weeks”, not every day, not every meal, like wtf?! If you want it to be mandatory, your employer should include it in the bill automatically. If you’re not making enough money at your current shitty place of employment, bring it up with your boss, not the customers you jerk, or get a second job, or go cry to your parents about it. I can’t even believe this is real. This person actually thinks they’re in the right here?! OB, you are a steaming pile of garbage.

  12. Meh, I used to care what the waiter/waitress thought about me, but now that I’m old as fuck, and because of nasty bitches like you, I couldn’t care less. I don’t give a flying fuck whether you believe you expect 20% of the bill for filling my coffee cup and bringing me one plate of food. How much is that worth to me? The minimum wage your boss pays you to walk food from a counter to a table. If I ate at fancy, expensive restaurants and had 3_4 course meals, I might be more inclined to tip super well, but for average pub fare, a you get like 5 bucks, noatter what the bill.

Also, nobody but you cares what you look like, and the fact you think you deserve something because you’re pretty makes me feel embarrassed for you. When your beauty fades, Toots, you’ll just be left with a shitty attitude.

  13. One assumes you are not volunteering to do this job for free, so therefore you get paid to do the job, and at times there will be tips in that line of work too. And that creates a bit of a Catch 22 because generally in food service pay is at the low end, and tips are supposed to help make the take home better than just the pay. And because there may be tips – pay rates stay low.

However, there usually is no guarantee of a tip at all. Unless you work for slime buckets who add a percentage to the bill for gratuities. (Places I avoid like the plague, though I am usually a tipper – depending on service).

Anyway, tips are normally not mandatory, therefore they are at the discretion of the customer and may be based on many thing. None of which are generally your business. However, if you are really interested to know why ‘your magical mystique’ of being an attractive young woman (your opinion, as one person’s attractive may be another’s meh, or ugh – also you are playing a form of sexist card there) and giving friendly and fast service (not truly friendly since you seem to have this bitch in your bonnet about the customer) is not working perhaps woman up and ask him directly. But be prepared for a direct answer.

Who knows. perhaps if you were a hot hunky dude he may open the wallet and tip big time (more sexism – oops), then again maybe not as he just may not have extra loot – or may be a person who does not believe in tipping. People from some countries are not tippers for example because tipping does not happen there etc.

Be happy he comes there and leaves any money at all in the joint – as that goes towards your pay eventually. Also, better than if he was a truly annoying person and all. And most important – if you put anything extra in his meals that should not be there, you deserve to be fired immediately and that should be just the start of a few horrors for you including perhaps a visit to a court room.

  14. Tips are up to the customers discretion. Don’t like that, get another fucking job. I worked for years in two different restaurants and didn’t get a fucking nickel in tips because I wasn’t the person who carried a plate of food 10 meters. I was the poor bastard doing the cutting, peeling, cooking, and getting burned (the WORK). So fuck off.

  15. Oh you know be happy with your wage you are paid for your job. The job that you signed up for at that wage.

  16. Bitch is ugly…from the inside out..probably your shitty entitled attitude that landed you in this low-wage dead-end job in the first place. Don’t think you’re going too much further than the job you’re in, get used to it

  17. In the minimum wage jobs, employers are often dealing with inexperienced workers that don’t have very many job skills. The employers pay them as little as possible but you can give them some credit for being a training place for other employers.

Ocassionally, there is an employee that gets stuck at their job but does exceptionally well at it. The employer should give them a pay raise. Many do give pay raises. Unfortunately, the raise is often not enough. There is no incentive to pay workers well when the business is already set up to train shitty workers that are high in supply.

IMO, tipping is something you do can do to give the excellent employee a little extra.

But, as soon as they start to feel that they are entitled to a tip, I feel compelled to save the money for my kids.

  18. Canadian wait staff benefit from a culture created by US wages. In the US the federal minimum wage is $2.13/hr. TWO THIRTEEN an hour if they receive more than 30 whole bucks a month in tips.

In Nova Scotia it is five times that. The same minimum wage we receive to work hard as factory workers, fish plant workers, warehouse staff and office personnel.

That is the same minimum wage others get without the benefit of tips. Tips should not be an expectation, but a reward from those that can afford to give a little extra for a job well done.
