Halifax, get ready to get back to your folk and country roots. Multi-instrumentalist Awna Teixeira is heading east on the train to bring us a performance at the Carleton on Tuesday where she’ll be rotating between accordion, banjo and guitar as well as a bit of harmonica. She describes her sound as being in between the three instruments. The accordion being very eastern European, playing on her Portugese upbringing, the banjo reflecting old-time music and on the guitar she will be doing some folk songs. “It will be a pretty good mix of styles, something for everybody,” she says. “It’s all original, I don’t sound too traditional in any sense.” Though Awna will be playing several instruments throughout her performance at the Carleton there are many other instruments that she can play. “I play electric bass and an instrument called the gut bucket bass, an old time instrument,” says Awna. “I also play piano, I just started teaching myself drums and at home we have horns I like to play around with.” –Emily Hiltz
