The paint’s still fresh at Bowtique Hair & Makeup, which opened a mere three weeks ago. Located at 1668 Barrington Street (407-4331) below Serpentine Studios, the studio is home to three stylists and specializes in wedding hair and makeup.
Meg Ryan, Bowtique’s owner, says it was a case of coincidence that caused her to open the salon. “My sister, who owns Serpentine Studios, came down and took a photo of the ‘For Lease’ sign in the window. At the same time, my friend who was working in Toronto said she was coming back to Halifax and needed a place to work. I asked her if she would work for me if I opened my own salon, and she said sure.”
Ryan says business has been great so far, and that walk-in appointments are always welcome. Ryan worked at another hair salon in the city previously, but says she had always wanted her own salon. “It was just time to do my own thing.”
