Looking for last minute stocking-stuffer? Or maybe just a stocking? Visit Pretty Things Boutique (5685 Cunard Street, 492-8329) to check out items made in their on-site workshop. Owner and all-around local glamour icon Cadence Macmichael has teamed up with alterations expert Jennifer Coe to create what she calls “new funky goodies that stray far from the traditional holiday fare.” They include handmade Christmas stockings in leopard and zebra print fabrics lined with pink or red satin ($20), handmade burlesque pasties (with tassels, of course, $8-$20) for the scantily clad performer in your life and vintage-inspired aprons in polka dots and animal prints paired up with stripes and solids ($35-$50) for, well, just about anyone with a sense of adventure. In addition to Pretty Things’ own lines, you’ll also find Hats By Kitty, vintage-inspired cocktail hats adorned with veils, faux flowers and feathers, ($30-$40) handmade by Monique Ryan—also known as a Best of Halifax readers’ poll-winning dancer.
