Bethany Riordan-Butterworth and Ella Tetrault opened their Fuller
Terrace backyard to the public this summer, as hosts of a lecture
series
aimed at getting to know people.

The idea originated with Vince Perez and Emily Jones several years
ago and focused on art and academics. After the pair moved,
Riordan-Butterworth and Tetrault continued the series, under a
different focus.

“We wanted the lecture series to be a venue for members of our
immediate community to exchange ideas and experiences,”
Riordan-Butterworth says.

They’ve held five lectures, filling the yard with a live Halifax
version of programs like National Public Radio’s This American
Life
.

“Although this is a small city and it’s easy to see people often,
there are so many things about people’s histories we don’t know,” says
Tetrault. “Small, personal stories help us to discover these
things.”

The series’ final summer lecture is Tuesday, August 18, 9pm, 2664
Fuller Terrace, with the theme of family, school, moving and travel.
