The Nobody is the latest graphic novel from Toronto-based
cartoonist Jeff Lemire, who earned critical praise and awards for his
Essex County trilogy. In The Nobody, Lemire re-imagines
the classic HG Wells story The Invisible Man by setting it in a
tiny Michigan fishing village. The reactions of the locals to their
bizarre new resident, who has taken up a permanent room at the local
motel, range from fear, suspicion and hatred to curiosity and, in the
case of one bored high school girl, fascination. Told with Lemire’s
instantly recognizable artwork, The Nobody is a quiet yet
powerful tale with richly developed characters and dialogue that you
can hear every word of.
