As promised, Cole MacLean of atlanticcanadarocks.com has posted the official announcement of Metallica’s show in Halifax today. The article (citing Harold MacKay for all the info) reports that the concert has been named “Rock the Hill 2012” and it’s happening Thursday July 14. In addition to Metallica, the lineup will feature support from Seether, Coheed and Cambria and Matt Mays.
TIckets for Rock the Hill 2011 go on sale on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 12:00 noon. Tickets will be available at www.rockthehill.ca or they can be ordered by phone at 1-877-569-7767. Tickets can also be purchased at participating Needs stores throughout the Maritimes.
“Early Bird” General Admission tickets are $99.50 (+tax & service charge) and there are a very limited number of VIP tickets available for $199.50 (+tax & service charge.)
And now, here’s the most ridiculous Lars Ulrich face I could find on the internet.

This article appears in May 5-11, 2011.

Weak support acts. Lot of money essentially just to see Metallica. Will skip this one. Saw them in their prime over 20 years ago
If they had a drummer that could keep time (Or there were worthwhile opening acts) I’d be interested. But 100$ for that? Umm… Don’t think so.
“Early bird” tickets: $99.50 (+tax & service charge)
“Late bird” tickets: Free (at Queensland Beach, day of show)
Taxpayer not responsible for concert losses: Priceless
Just because you don’t enjoy the opening acts doesn’t mean they aren’t quality. In particular, Coheed and Cambria can play the Air Canada center and sell a huge number of seats. Halifax isnt toronto (ha ha) I know this but a current alt-rock band that can sell those kinds of tickets isn’t “weak”. No comment on Seether though…
Are you fucking crazy, longwalker? I’ve never even heard of this Coseed and Cumbra and you expect me to believe they could sell tickets in a 30,000+ arena? Just to make sure I wasn’t talking out of my ass (like you are) I googled this band. They sound a little interesting but from what I see, the play ballrooms and large clubs. Get some perspective dude.
BRoc: My bad brah, was misinformed by a friend. That being said, they are a great band and its frustrating when people hate on bands like Metallica for being “out of prime”, then turn around and bash the opening acts which are coming into their best years… Ive been watching two of the opening bands for a long time (7 years or so): Coheed and Cambria and Protest the Hero. Coheed has been stepping up every album through the years and the first time I saw Protest the Hero, they played the pavilion with maybe 40 people in attendance… They definitely show promise and its too bad that people are so closed minded around here that every band that comes to town is labelled either a “weak support act” or a washed up old man band.
I’m sorry to all the “haters” out there, but this is a pretty solid and even line up. Yes, Metallica has hit the other side of the metaphorical hill, but who friggin cares, their music catalogue stands the test of time (unlike their haircuts). As for the other bands: Protest the Hero are still a VERY young and extremely talented band with each album more interesting than the last; Seether may be sounding more mainstream each record, but they’re still plenty hard enough for me; Coheed and Cambria are brilliant story tellers with musicianship to match and if you don’t know who they are, you don’t have a decent enough library; and Matt Mays needs no explanation or justification, he’s a Maritimer, so support him!
I am ponyin up the dough for this event because it’s worth it… I paid $68 for the “Music as a Weapon” concert where there were only three bands (stupid Sevendust) and Korn made it worth my money… as long as two of these bands produce a decent live show, it’s worth it.
Coheed is a really good band, and they put on an amazing live show! I’ve seen them many times. In my opinion, they sound better live than they do on their albums, which I think is the sign of an awesome band.
This is from a show in New York, from their 4 night neverender tour:

Yes, you may be all correct to state that the supporting acts are good talented bands, however, by themselves, they would not fill anything larger than the Cunard Centre. In order for me to shell out that much money, I would expect to see at least one more arena act. BTW, how the fuck does Matt Mays fit in? I couldn’t care less if he’s local or not but he doesn’t belong opening for a metal act.
Amazing pic. The rest I am pretending does not exist.
If ya like Metallica the go to the f***ing concert ,if not (cause Black Eyed Cheese wasn’t coheadlining )then stay home and watch gossip girl or vampire diarrheas and throw on some Biebe )Otherwise support Heavy Metal and flash the horns people .
Not really a fan, but I know a lot of kids will be thrilled that they won’t have to travel far to see them. So it’s good for a lot of young metal fans, which I think is a good thing. People can act like they’re too cool for school and hate on Metallica, but by all accounts they put on a great show. I think that it’s cool a lot of young people will get to see them and not have to travel to Montreal to catch them.
