Move over Fred: there is a barbershop in the Rodeo Lounge. As of last Friday, you can get your ears lowered at the city’s biggest and most popular country bar in Burnside.
Hours are Monday to Wednesday (and Saturday) from 9 to 5 and Thursdays and Fridays from 9 to 7pm. What, no shooters and shaves at 2am? “I’ll be here till two o’clock in the morning, but I won’t be cutting hair,” laughs Sandy Lyle, the shop’s owner. Lyle holds court at bar while his wife Carla Balsor manages the lounge.
What’ll it be? Long blonde locks, feathered or curled a la Carrie Underwood or Alan Jackson? A close crop like Kenny Chesney or a classic flattop like George Jones? Maybe a little rockabilly swirl like Johnny Cash and a Patsy Cline beehive for the missus?
“Nah. Nothing like that. It’s pretty straightforward stuff here, pal,” Lyle tells me. Don’t underestimate him: those hands cut hair. Lyle has over ten year’s experience as a barber. Women’s hair is done by a stylist named Stacey.
