The launch of new hardware often brings with it some compelling software as developers try to capture a new audience, but there are also some awful cash grabs, which are meant to exploit consumers. Once again, Ridge Racer finds itself in the latter category. Ridge Racer 3D is an arcade racer with a multitude of fictional rides and locales as you drift and swerve your way through tight corners. The racing mechanics are solid, but the game lacks a sense of speed and intensity, especially considering how fast the cars are going. You won’t be driving alone, throughout the single-player events you’ll have a really annoying co-pilot giving you important pointers like “Woah! You’re an amazing driver, maybe you could give me some tips later?” Lame! The 3D effect is impressive but unnecessary, the graphics are bland and the music and audio are atrocious. I recommend turning the volume off.
