The Good Food Emporium (2179 Gottingen Street, 422-3150) is pulling up sticks. The beloved north end eatery is moving into the space recently vacated by George & Lito’s—former home of The Pyramid Cafe and Cafe Vienna—at 2186 Windsor Street, just below Cunard. Good Food queen Carol LeBlanc reports that the move was prompted by the Gottingen landlord raising the rent on the current space but not doing any work to improve it. Also, the location over on Windsor is well trafficked. Gottingen Good Food will close at the end of May and open in its new location the first week of June.

It sucks that it’s moving from Gottigen. It’s been a fixture on that street, like forever… Good luck GFE!!
Score!
Typical slumlord behaviour, just like the older Korean couple with the laundromat on Barrington Street. I’m worried about the beautiful old wooden building on Gottingen being empty-an excuse to tear it down? Slumlords and their “fuck you-I can do what I want” attitude. And they get away with it because they feel they owe the larger community nothing and the Tenancy Act is written completely for the needs of the property owner, not the tenant. Bunch of bastards! I’m sick of it…
Sweet!
Boooo!!! I’m so sick of hearing similar stories, of slumlords raising rents while older Halifax buildings fall into disrepair. No doubt, the building will soon be razed and some shiny new condos put up in its place. Hooray for maintaining communities!
The Good Food has been a beloved landmark on Gottingen and will be sorely missed from the neighbourhood. I wish them all the best in their new digs.
