Without a notice on the door, or workers to be seen, Shoptalk is assuming the Maritime Campus Store (6238 Quinpool Road, 423-6523) is closing. The owners, however, have not confirmed this, but the phone hasn’t been answered in days and the store remains unvisited.

Sadly – very sadly………………MCS, after 53 years…………has closed its’ doors. Originally opened in 1958, it has been a fixture on the local scene since then. The longest continuous business on Quinpool Road after moving there from Brenton Street in 1962.!
In that time, MCS has touched many lives. A LOT of people started their working careers there. A lot of sports teams relied on MCS for their Team / School uniform supplies. Countless customers had their company apparel made there. Just about EVERYONE got their SwimSuits there in the summer and in the winter before heading south.
Most of all, MCS had a VERY loyal and dedicated group of employees, some of whom had worked there for decades.
that’s too bad, i always liked their bathing suit selection
Put the Eagle brothers in charge and this is what you get. They couldn’t run 529 properly and after owning this place for less than 5 years it’s gone under. Just proves that popularity and having connections can’t take the place of talent and business smarts.
Maybe Jym Adams will get them to run his glass store and that can tank too…
The previous owners were no great shakes either. I had the misfortune, in the 1980s, to work for those cheap, nasty motherfuckers for a year and it was NO picnic and NO overtime pay. The kids of these owners would come into my office and bum lunch from me, a minimum-wage peon, because their parents were too fucking stingy to buy them lunch. After I got docked 4 minutes for crossing the street to get a sandwich, I quit that sorry ass place. If there’s workers from decades before, they must have been braindead and cobwebbed.
