Okay, we lost, but really we won. It wasn’t a bad, humiliating loss. Maybe the Swedes gave our ladies a collective skinned knee, but we both advanced. Correction: I got my talk all wrong in the earlier posts. Sweden earn second place in Group E with two wins and a loss; we get third place in the group with a win, tie and loss. However, this still means we get to advance. The BBC lays it out. Thanks to North Korea’s loss to the USA, we are the best third place team overall, so that means we will play the United States.

“We lost but really we won”?How very Canadian.
Well, we won in that we still advance and the Swedes go home. That seems to be more of a soccer thing. I think when Canada took out their main goal scorer – Christine Sinclair – it was clear they weren’t worried about losing this game. Why waste the energy, I suppose?
