The Sir James Dunn Theatre will be flooded with weird and wonderful sounds this weekend for the revival of the Open Waters Music Festival of New and Improvised Music. The festival ran for two years in the late ’90s, but was then put on hiatus. After Halifax hosted the Canadian New Music Network forum last year, Paul Cram, the artistic producer for Upstream Music Association, felt bringing back Open Waters was a logical step. “It’s really about listening to music…deep listening; There’s a lot that can be yielded from that and we just want to share that with everybody.” The festival brings together composers and musicians from around Atlantic Canada for workshops, as well as three big concerts showcasing the best in jazz and new music.
