The court of appeals rejected an appeal of the dismissal by lower courts of six Halifax school board members who were dismissed by Education minister Karen Casey.

Whatever the legal issues involved, the political precedent is horrible. Elections become meaningless if those elected can simply be removed on a whim of the education minister. Sure, there was in-fighting among school members, but that reflected conflicting visions of the populace, and the school board was the appropriate place for those differences to be played out.
