Though he constantly sounds like he’s losing it—and very few moments in this hour are not laced with obscenities—Rock leaves you with a warm feeling, much like Bill Cosby 30 years ago. Few comics are as brutally honest about touchy subjects. Rock knows O.J. did it and he understands why—something about alimony and the boyfriend driving the Ferrari. His dissertation on the class divide among American blacks is worthy of a 20-page article in Harper’s. Soul food, rap, platonic love… none of it will be the same after you’ve heard Rock. Even Nelson Mandela gets a zing and it’ll bust your gut every time.
