Disney’s domestic releases of Hayao Miyazaki’s catalogue over the past few years have been overpriced, but give Americans plenty of riches from Japan’s most popular filmmaker. Most Miyazaki films are astounding, but Totoro’s personal tale of young sisters who befriend a shape-shifting monster while coping with their mother’s sickness may be the most felt. Miyazaki is adult about childhood by being so well attuned to it.
