The Sadies
In Concert Volume One
(Outside)
One of Canada’s greatest live bands finally commits its show to tape. Taken from over two nights at Lee’s Palace in Toronto, these two discs are smoking! Helping the band are a slew of guests including The Good Brothers, Blue Rodeo, Neko Case, The Band’s Garth Hudson, Jayhawks’ Gary Louris and many more. But what solidifies the discs is the furious attack The Sadies always bring to the table. Whether doing a country jam with The Good Brothers or turning into The Mekons with Jon Langford, they are tight and shooting soul from every fibre. But this set isn’t just for The Sadies fans—it’s also a great introduction. An absolute must.

There are many, many bars in Halifax guilty of “profiling”… The Palace, The Attic, The Dome…to name a few.
JJ’s was awful for this kind of crap- BUT THOSE WANKERS GOT SHUT DOWN!!! FUCK YOU, JJ’S!!!
Actually, even white guys are told to leave if they don’t meet the dress code. I personally have been told to remove my ball cap, or that muscle shirts (aka wife beaters) were not permitted. So, it appears to me that you yourself are profiling! It’s about time that there was equality in dress codes!
How is it racial profiling to have a dress code?Isn’t it racist to say black people hate country music?
You are so right ToI. I don’t know what these clubs are afraid of. Do they believe that Hip Hop music incites one to violence? They will lose business by having baggy pant, ball cap, wife beater wearing men in the bar.Perhaps these type of people don’t drop enough cash in the run of a night and just “take up space”. Usually when clubs thry to “whiten up” it is due to not wanting a certain type of crowd that a free dress code and music with a beat will attract. I don’t believe dress code is the reason for this discrimination, it is clearly color of skin or identifying with a particular ethnic group.I have been going downtown to different clubs for over 13 years and the only problems I witnessed that involved balck men or women was at the Derby… go figure.
and of course the age old question… why do the guys get kicked out for baggy pants and ball caps, yet the girls with their butt cheeks hanging out of their skirts and their tops (if you can call them that) barely contain their boobies, get to stay? i vote for a nudist nightclub! unless of course they decide to not let people with tattoos or piercings in…
I have witnessed this also at a club in Halifax when the two black men who were with my group(a group of women) weren’t allowed in due to having sneakers on, I looked around and many white guys had them on and I pointed that out. We were all kicked out for being “troublemakers”. I have never gone back to that club.

fear, guns can be hidden in baggy clothing
