Fly or Die

N.E.R.D.—Pharell Williams, Chad Hugo and Shay Haley—have just dropped Fly or Die, the follow-up to the hugely successful (and overplayed) In Search of. It’s an intimate album better suited to a pair of headphones than a powerful stereo. Fly or Die evokes a more funk-filled, R&B sound than the hip-hop, star-studded In Search of. This really is the album on which N.E.R.D will fly or die: It’s far less commercial than any Neptunes material, but it proves N.E.R.D. can stand on their own.
