It’s been seven years since Helmet released a disc of dark and angry tunes. The newly reformed outfit is back, and madder than ever. A direct shot toward the nü-metal that’s tarnished the heavy metal genre, Page Hamilton and co. deliver fierce, driving cuts like “Crash-ing Foreign Cars,” “Enemies” and “Last Breath,” kicking balls-less pseudo-metal acts like Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit to the curb. Unlike Godsmack, Helmet hasn’t lost its edge, and it’s good to see the band back behind the wheel.
