Mount Eerie
11 Old Songs of Mount Eerie
(PW Elverum & Sun)
Phil Elverum was The Microphones — the west coast embodiment of DIY, huge fan of Eric’s Trip — and one who eventually tired of his mostly obscure but critically acclaimed past. He left K records and started his own self-titled label. His newer music goes by the name of Mount Eerie. These songs are nothing like his previous work. These songs are also exactly like his previous work. This CD is sparse, personal, maudlin and most often depressing. But it still draws us in. He delivers his work by confiding in us, entrusting us with his pain and observations, by whispering his thoughts into our ears. Here, Mount Eerie delivers lyrics enveloped in the wonderful sounds of dime-store electronica. It is soothing.
