Unfortunately the awards and screening night scheduled for December 12 at eyelevelgallery was cancelled, but the Linda Joy Media Arts Society announced a winner for the first Helen Hill Animated Award, in memory of the beloved filmmaker. Appropriately, another much-loved animator, Heather Harkins, takes the prize for She’s a Lady Animator (two of my favourite words together), which “uncovers the secret history of women animators working during World War II and brings their stories back to Nova Scotia.” Along with the emotional honour, Harkins also receives funding from Power Post, Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative, Centre For Art Tapes and New Brunswick Filmmakers’ Cooperative.
