Loviet has been an artist on my radar since I started exploring the Halifax music scene. Her blend of alt aesthetics and moody tunes with pop production was my jam, and her new single “Stiffy” only shows she’s leaning more in a rock direction. She has another single dropping on Nov. 7 titled “Cheerleader”. Stylish, savvy and sick with a guitar, Loviet is the definition of cool.
I bumped into Loviet in front of the Rodd Grand Hotel in Yarmouth on Friday, Nov. 24. Nova Scotia Music Week was in full swing and my partner and I were getting ready to head down to The Red Knight to see our most anticipated showcase: a lineup of indie rock, pop rock, and ear-shattering punk music that couldn’t be beat.
Loviet had the same idea. She had performed a showcase at The Red Knight the day before, rocking out on the same stage as names like DEADØNE, idialedyournumber and Colrain, amongst others, a day before I got into town. We struck up a quick chat, and met briefly at the bar later, where I proposed an interview for this series—the second I had nailed down for the weekend. She planned to return to her hometown in Shelburne on Saturday, but she agreed to meet in the hotel lobby on the next day.
When we met on Saturday, both of us were recovering from the night before. We found a big, comfy couch in the lobby of the Rodd Grand, and began to chat. We talked about her career so far, going from Yarmouth bar shows to international festival appearances, reactions to her new single “Stiffy”, and her new yet-to-be-released single “Cheerleader”.
The following is that conversation. Recorded on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Rodd Grand.
CREAMER: Starting out, how’s Music Week?
LOVIET: It’s been great. Yeah. It’s been so fun and busy. I would say fun and busy.
CREAMER: You had your showcase, I think, on Thursday?
LOVIET: Yeah, we did the first show night. It was the first of the nights, and that was awesome.
CREAMER: Out of all of the shows, I know you went to the ones last night at The Red Knight, what were some of the acts you saw there? I know that you’re obviously friends with a lot of these people, but like, anybody you were super excited to see?
LOVIET: Oh, it’s so good all the time. Like, we did stick around The Red Knight mostly, so we saw Good Dear Good, The Gilberts, Customer Service, ANGEL GIRL, Bologna Colorado. The highlights of the weekend were last night.
CREAMER: I know we talked about this a little while ago. You had a new single come out, “Stiffy”. What have reactions been around that so far?
LOVIET: It’s been cool. We released it during a tour, so we really got to like, experience it live to see the fan connections, talk about it and play it. So far, it feels really nice. Everybody’s been supportive of us to be in an angstier, heavier lean for this release.
CREAMER: Absolutely. I guess it’s nice, you know, you release the single, and then suddenly you have fans singing it back at you.
LOVIET: Yeah, we had a few moments like that, and it was just very cool. We haven’t really experienced that before, getting to actually be live on the road with the release.
CREAMER: I think when we talked last, you were just leading up to going to RiotFest, I want to say. How was it after?
LOVIET: It was amazing. It was very cool, and you never know what to expect, so you just kind of go in without expectations, but for our set, we were really stoked. There was a lot of people, like 50,000 people show up right at the gate at 11am, so it’s immediately like, you have a full audience in front of you. Yeah, we just did our thing.
CREAMER: Any other tour plans coming up?
LOVIET: We are doing, well, I’m going to do a solo tour with Terra Lightfoot in December. I’ll just, like, rip a few gigs with her, who is a legend. I love Terra. After that, we already have some talks for hopefully some more Canadian dates on the west coast in January, February.
CREAMER: So you’re just non-stop? Never home?
LOVIET: No, yeah, we’re good. I’d rather be on the road and doing stuff. I’d go crazy. But, we are releasing too, so it is nice to take some time from playing live to focus on like, the videos and more recording. So, we’re doing that in the winter, too. We’ll take some time to just be recording, writing and releasing.
CREAMER: So what’s the next recording that’s coming up for you?
LOVIET: The next song, we just started teasing it, is called “Cheerleader”. This is technically my favourite of the releases that we’ve put together as a single because it’s special and it really represents me, I think, and how I feel as an artist and as a girl, and it’s just a fun song. It’s very quirky.
CREAMER: I think I saw the teaser for it on Instagram. You were in, like, the cheerleader get-up.
LOVIET: Yes, yeah. It’s like, back in the day obviously when we listened to like, you know, “Stacy’s Mom” and these kind of fun, silly, cool, iconic 2000s rock songs. So, I think we were kind of leaning in that vein, and yeah, we kind of made this cool, and it’s the most guitar work that I’ve had to do in a song in a while. For the live show, it would be sick, because I’m… there’s a lot of little licks and cool things like that.
CREAMER: Just shredding throughout.
LOVIET: Yeah, I guess, right? It’s going to be interesting. We’re going to take this on the road and it’s going to be fun.
CREAMER: That’s rad. Any other exciting things coming up that you want to throw out there?
LOVIET: I’m drawing a blank. As you can tell, we’re both on death’s door.
CREAMER: Just surviving.
LOVIET: Just surviving. Just holding on. It’s like one o’clock and it feels like 10am.
CREAMER: Just put me back to bed, please.
LOVIET: Literally, but no, it’s great. I’m just stoked that the songs are coming out, finally. And we’re just going to keep doing what we do, and I’m stoked we had a really great showcase at that capacity. It met capacity, and that’s the first time I’ve ever had that happened, and I’ve been around. And the venue was awesome, The Red Knight?
CREAMER: Yeah, it’s a sick venue. I think I heard somebody say yesterday, it might have been, honestly, one of The Gilberts, like, DQ vibes. Like, with the f**king window.

LOVIET: It’s giving Tarantino takes this place and makes the f**king craziest movie, because it’s so camp. It’s just… it’s amazing. But anyway, great weekend.
CREAMER: Anything in particular about Yarmouth that really stands out? I’m sure you’ve played Yarmouth before.
LOVIET: Yarmouth is funny because I’m from, obviously, the South Shore.
CREAMER: Shelburne, right?
LOVIET: Yes. So, I grew up playing Th’YARC, and I grew up playing around The Red Knight and The Coal Shed, and even here in the Rodd Grand at Haley’s Lounge. So, I did all these gigs when I was coming up. My first little tour here and there, and underage. I was like, 18. So it’s very funny to be back and to do it again, but in a very cool way. Like, Music Week is always very cool and all the people come from away, this is a new experience for them, and yeah. I love getting people’s reactions live because we’re on the tip of the earth right now. This is the tip of Nova Scotia. We’re out here. I f**king love it.
CREAMER: Yeah, certainly. I know it must be a little weird, because like, obviously like you said, you play here a bunch and then you go out, you’re playing festivals in the U.S. and Canada and again, you’re non-stop. You’re constantly going, and then to come back around to Yarmouth. What are some of those feelings coming back?
LOVIET: It’s nostalgia. I’m like, oh my God, I’m 15 again, walking through the halls. It’s crazy, but also like, it’s just cool no matter what. As long as we get to play, and again, the audiences here, like we had such a great show, and everybody’s so energetic, and it feels like there’s magic around these kinds of events because everybody’s so excited, and all the bands deserve so much. It’s just like, everyone gets a little moment to shine. It’s special. Playing on our own, we go to places where we’re obviously strangers and we’re meeting fans, and it’s different. It’s cool because you don’t fall into routine, whereas I feel sometimes here we get a little lazy, and we’re like, it’s our home place. We’re chilling. But also, there’s beauty in both. Here, we just relax. It’s a lot more easy-going, I guess. We’re comfortable here.
CREAMER: That’s all the questions I’ve got. Anything else you want to throw out there?
LOVIET: I don’t know. Just going to survive.
CREAMER: Drink as much coffee as possible, and yeah, get through it.
This conversation is part one of our interview series with artists attending Nova Scotia Music Week 2025, which took place in Yarmouth from Oct. 23-26. Some edits were made for clarity.
Editor’s Note: A previous version of this article stated the recording date was Nov. 25, 2025. That date has not yet occurred, and this interview would have therefore been impossible. Thankfully, we actually recorded it on Oct. 25.
