As of this weekend, Venus Envy (1598 Barrington Street) has been a resource, teacher and playmate in for Haligonians for 18 years, and in honour of such a momentous occasion, the beloved sex shop/book store is in celebration mode.
“We exist because people support us,” says Venus Envy’s Kaleigh Trace. “And we wanted to do something for the people who’ve supported us so lovingly over the years.”
For the big day—this Saturday, April 16—the shop will not only serving up cake, and knocking 18 percent off select toys, it’ll be partying after business hours, too. The free birthday bash invites VE customers and friends to party like it's 1998, meaning strapping on your best choker and making your way to The Company House (2202 Gottingen Street) for drag and burlesque performances (10pm), followed by dancing with DJ Dentata (who’ll play strictly ’98 and earlier selections).
The most special of special guests? Venus Envy’s recently retired founder, Shelley Taylor will be in town for the festivities. “She wouldn’t like it being referred to as a retirement party, but we’ll also be celebrating her,” says Trace. “And all the work she did to make Venus Envy happen.”
