Beleagured premier Rodney MacDonald is giving up the fight on Sunday shopping. Instead of appealing today's court decision that lets SuperStore and Sobeys open Sundays, the premier says now all stores everywhere in the province can be open all the time, no exceptions, except Remembrance Day.
"Government has gone to a considerable effort to maintain this unique part of Nova Scotia life," says RodMac in his concession press release. "The court has made its decision, and in many respects, so have Nova Scotians, on this issue."
RodMac's official statement is here.
No word yet on how exactly workers will be protected vis a vis unwanted Sunday shifts, or what perennial hot-button topic will take Sunday shopping's place for editorials and call-in shows.
